Tips and Tricks for your Destin Beach Family Photo Session

#planning #fashion

You finally have the opportunity to gather the family together and create memories! Now comes the fun of capturing those memories. With over 15 years experience in photography family portraits, I have acquired some quick tips that will make everyones session go easy - no matter who your photographer is - check out these tips to help you plan!

Location: From Panama City Beach to Fort Walton Beach - there are MANY, many beaches along HWY 98 that make the perfect setting for your family portrait session. Some of my favorites include Miramar Beach, Navarre, Santa Rosa Beach, Watercolor, and Seaside. View our gallery of locations >>>

What to Wear: Planning for your family session is my favorite part! I am obsessed with fashion and harmony for your family portraits. Some families prefer a traditional, timeless look on the beach fo their wardrobe for their family portraits, while others prefer to toss the "match-matchy" look. Contact me about your style preferences and lets plan the perfect wardrobe for all the members of your family. #whattowear

Tan lines - be sure your wardrobe covers and tan lines! And most importantly, stay away from any sunburn before your photo session! Tan lines and sunburn are additional fees for retouching.

Posing: Yes - believe it or not, my families that play ahead of time with their favorite poses for their sessions are the ones that have the most fun! My job is to help you feel comfortable and confident in front of that camera, and posing is what most feel insecure about. What do I do with my hands? That's the #1 questions asked.... view my family galleries to view my posing techniques and family portrait style. You can also follow me on TikTok for videos on posing for couples, seniors, families and more.

Hair and Makeup: It is Windy on the beach! Very important - it is always windy on the beach. Ladies (and even guys with locks), be sure to plan for this when planning your session. Hats, bows, headbands make great accessories items to help with wind issues on the beach. Ladies - I also suggest having a professional makeup artist complete your look for you. Your family portraits are an investment in your homes wall art - make sure you look stunning with flawless makeup by a professional.

Props & Personal Items: Many clients will bring props or personal items to include in their portrait sessions. One of my favorites is of course New Born props to announce your little one is coming! Some clients love the idea of a beach boho setting and opt to have our Boho Decor option added to their sessions - check out why here!

Be On Time for your Photo Session: Sunset and Sunrise sessions are done for that beautiful golden hour look in the skies of your beach images. If you arrive late to your photo session, you will be limited on the amount of "good light" available to achieve that look in your images. It is imperative you arrive on time.

TIP: arrive early and STAY in air conditioned car so you don't get hot and sweaty before your session.

It's All About the KIDDOS! This is my number one priority! And I'm all about bribery. If you child or grandchild has a favorite toy or even treat - bring it along! Those are great tools for working with little ones.

TIP: stay away from m&m's, skittles or any treats that will dissolve and cause messy faces or outfits. We suggest smarties for treats! Click here for more planning suggestions for little ones.
